This morning

Makani shared the company’s final update with the world: 13 years worth of lessons learned

… including code repositories, a technical report, flight logs, technical videos, and our documentary film. The technical report, written by Paula Echeverri, Geo Homsy, Nick Tucker and Tobin Fricke is a masterful tribute to the heroic effort of the whole Makani team. Fort Felker, Makani’s most recent CEO, wrote a lovely intro and Betsy Pfeiffer did a beautiful job wrangling many reports into a polished form. Sharing it publicly today is cause for real celebration.

We are passionate about sharing what we learned with everyone working to solve hard problems in the world, who might resonate with or learn something new from our experience. We tried to make the feature documentary film especially accessible to a wide audience—everyone from science teachers and their students to deep aero nerds (who might find the footage of the regional-jet sized kite falling from the sky midway through the film especially captivating), to anyone who is curious about how ideas are born and the passion it takes to push them forward. If you know of other people who might find these resources useful or inspiring, please feel free to share with them too.
